Cherry Street Health Services is a federally qualified health center with a mission to improve the health and wellness of individuals by providing comprehensive primary and behavioral health care while encouraging access by those who are underserved. The Medical Assistant assists providers in the delivery of primary care services. The schedule is Monday through Friday typically between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., but one evening a week the individual will work 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This position is located in the Pediatric clinic in the Westside Health Center on the northwest side of Grand Rapids.
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish. Must have medical assisting experience working with pediatric patients. Must be able to perform routine health tasks and deal tactfully with patients undergoing treatment in stressful situations. Must be able to work effectively with professional and paraprofessional staff. Must have either the CMA certification through AAMA or the RMA certification through AMT – or be able to obtain it by July 1, 2014.
The Medical Assistant will be responsible to:
- Greet patients, complete and verify forms, and direct patients to exam rooms.
- Assist with routine care and treatment of patients.
- Take vital signs and record in the electronic medical records system.
- Administer immunizations, obtain lab specimens, perform tests, document results, and prepare specimens for transportation.
- Assist with examination and procedures and complete necessary cleanup.
- Implement provider orders, i.e. lab, dressing, treatments, and refills, and carry out routine testing procedures.
- Manage clinic flow for assigned providers.
- Prepare charts for visits, file patient information, and assist with medical records duties.
- Retrieve and distribute results to health care providers, laboratories, and medical records as directed. Give abnormal results to provider.
- Sterilize and clean equipment.
