Do you have education background to be a teacher in the state of Michigan and want to lead a team of instructors to provide bilingual instruction to program youth?
Samaritas provides services to youth who have traveled to the US for safety apart from their family or guardians. These youth are given status in the United States as Unaccompanied Children (UC). The children you will be serving will come from diverse and oftentimes traumatic backgrounds, and are placed in both foster home and group home settings where Samaritas provides educational services for youth.
As an Unaccompanied Children (UC) Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for coordinating educational services, and providing supervision to educational staff. You will also be expected to regularly provide teaching services and establish curriculum. In addition to your programmatic responsibilities, you will also be required to maintain communication with stakeholders in an effective and timely manner to ensure case continuity. This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Salary Details: This position has a pay rate of $47,840 annually or $52,000 annually with Spanish bil-lingual experience
Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement designated hours per week of content-based ESL/bilingual instruction in accordance with established curriculum
- Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods
- Impart adequate and supportive supervision to Teachers and Teaching Assistants, ensuring that all child welfare and best practice standards are being observed
- Maintain communication with all parties involved in student care, to ensure adjustment to program expectations
- Ensure that all children are receiving the mandatory educational services
- Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods
- Maintain accurate and current information on youth in care, while ensuring contract and the program's internal documentation practices and reporting requirements are met. Attend weekly meetings with supervisor to consult on cases, to review education plan and direction and to evaluate client participation and progress
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to students, as well as teacher assistant
- Complete education assessments, weekly progress reports, and incident reports as needed in accordance with contractor
- Create and prepare educational materials and classrooms for class activities
- Create and maintain the schools yearly academic schedule and calendar
- Participate in treatment planning meeting with each youth as needed or requested
- Maintain adequate awareness of youth's activities to ensure the safety of the youth, other residents, staff and the program are maintained
- Keep environment safe by reporting all safety concerns, safety hazards and needed repairs and share information with the Program Director
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
- Bachelor Degree in education or related field
- Valid Michigan teacher certification, preferred
Experience
- One year teaching experience with grades K-12
- Experience working with residential youth preferred
- Bi-lingual in Spanish (or the Major language of the youth in care) preferred
- Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record. Reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served; proof of current registration and automobile insurance
