Job Description Summary
Michigan Technological University and the Department of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology invite applicants for an assistant teaching professor, assistant professor, or Professor of Practice. The successful applicants will demonstrate appropriate technical expertise and industrial experience to teach any courses offered in the MMET Department. This includes undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Technology courses, graduate MET courses for MS in Mechatronics, and graduate courses in Manufacturing Engineering.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Teach fundamental courses and laboratories in the areas of parametric 3D CAD modeling, statics, strength of materials, dynamics, machine design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, quality, and product design.
Teach courses and laboratories in the following areas: manufacturing processes; fluids and power systems; and computer-aided engineering.
Create innovative instructional materials and laboratory experiences.
Participate in program assessment activity related to accreditation.
Conduct research in an area related to mechanical and/or manufacturing
engineering.
Participate in service activities related to the department, college, university and professional societies.
Integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely-related engineering or engineering technology field from an accredited institution.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
Evidence of effective teaching at the postsecondary level.
Evidence of strong oral and written communication, and computer and oral presentation skills.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Extensive college/university teaching experience in mechanical or manufacturing areas.
Extensive industry/government experience.
Certifications in GD&T, Additive Manufacturing, CMfgE, CAD systems, Six Sigma, or others.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and student success.
Motivation to conduct applied research.
Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with industry.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) mechanical registration.
History of funded applied research.
Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
