GENERAL SUMMARY:
The speech pathologist provides evaluation and treatment for patients referred to the Speech and Language Pathology Department and takes part in Continuing Education and fund-raising activities as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Evaluate communicative dysfunction, give recommendations and provide patient treatment.
2. Documentation of patient evaluation/treatment in Epic system and outcome input in Noms.
3. Develop plan of treatment for individual/group, computer therapy for patient.
4. Communicate with families or significant others, physicians and other interdisciplinary team members relating to patient.
5. Assist in Supervision of interns from graduate programs of various universities.
6. Related department projects as directed.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education / Training:
* Master's Degree, Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), ASHA.
B. Work Experience:
* Expertise in adult/children neurological speech and language disorders, evaluation and treatment, including aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, laryngectomy, stuttering and other related voice disorders.
* Experience with swallow videofluorocopy and modified barium swallow patients.
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
* Certificate of Clinical Competence, America Speech-Language-Hearing Association, (required) or
* Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
* Licensure in Speech Pathology-Michigan (required) or temporary license during the CFY (required)
D. Other Qualifications:
* Demonstrate knowledge of growth, development and dynamics of behavior for age-related groups cared for.
* Knowledge of new computer software relating to patient treatment.
* Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary team.
* Clinician needs to be aware of third party insurance coverage.
* May focus on inpatient as well as outpatient treatment population.
* Ability to be flexible, quick thinking in stress related situations and to be resourceful daily.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
A. Physical Effort:
* May be required to lift up to 20 pounds. Use of computer and other office equipment.
B. Work Environment:
* This job requires working in a professional clinical office setting.
* The work area is typically adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
