Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for an Engineer in the Vehicle Emission and Efficiency Lab (VEL) at our Superior Township, Michigan facility who will:.
Ensure HATCI's Vehicle Emission and Efficiency Lab (VEL) fully complies with EPA/CARB regulations, ISO 17025 requirements, and industry best practices:
Understand and interpret all aspects of current and future requirements in regard to emission measurement, test procedures, calibrations, and maintenance methods.
Perform quality assurance (QA) activities for VEL test and facility operations.
Support lab equipment specification, procurement, and commissioning
Support the VEL ISO 17025 accreditation program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Test Operations:
Support interpreting emission regulations and test procedures
Support equipment operation, maintenance, and calibration
Support training of staff performing tests
Facility Operations:
Ensure test equipment is fully operational and calibrated.
Define technical equipment deficiencies and work with staff and/or suppliers to come up with solutions that meet the lab's needs.
Support the specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of new equipment ensuring compliance with all EPA/CARB requirements.
Track status and completion of tasks and provide feedback to management.
Develop process management strategies to increase efficiency and quality.
Assist with preventive maintenance and calibration.
Quality:
Support overall quality control/assurance of the lab and test results.
Support internal and external correlation programs.
Support lab ISO 17025 accreditation
Budget and Reporting:
Support major equipment upgrade project budgets.
Assist in planning and monitoring of department budget.
Create bi-weekly summary reports for management.
Create and update technical work instructions and forms.
Create and present technical reports as assigned.
Travel:
Up to 10% of the time domestic and international

Basic Requirements:
Bachelors in Engineering (Electrical, Automotive, or Mechanical preferred)
Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of US emissions regulations (EPA/CARB) for ICE and/or xEV vehicles
3+ years of vehicle emission testing and/or lab facility and instrumentation management
Knowledge of emission measurement equipment - Horiba preferred.
Knowledge of chassis dynamometers - Burke E Porter preferred.
Knowledge of ISO-17025
xEV (HEV, PHEV, and BEV) testing experience preferred.
