Our Team
Electrified Propulsion Controls and Efficiency Development (ePCE) is one of the Engineering Departments in the Electrified Propulsion Development (ePD) Division of HATCI. ePCE's mission is to add tangible values to Hyundai/KIA/Genesis products for North American market by improving propulsion system efficiency and performance.
The Position
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking a Vehicle Emissions and OBD Calibration Engineer in the Propulsion system Management and Integration (PMI) team at our Superior Township, MI facility. PMI is an Engineering Group within ePCE department to undertake engineering projects related to engine and electrified propulsion management system test and validation as well as new technology investigation for propulsion performance enhancement.
Core Responsibilities
Engine Management System (EMS) mapping and validation
EMS & OBD calibration and validation including extreme ambient condition tests.
OBD fleet verification - Software & ROM management, emission testing, issue investigation and resolution.
New technology development for enhanced emission regulation and cost reduction
Support project and team success through coordination and tracking of test and development plans, project status/progress reports, and leading the execution of project activities through completion.
Provide deep dive technical support for pre-production and post-production issues.
Produce and deliver presentations on key project milestones and achievements.
Support for EMS manufacturing, quality improvement, field claim investigation, and certification
Competitor vehicle propulsion system benchmarking
Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)
Core Capabilities
Technical excellence in vehicle testing and calibration.
Ability to interpret regulations and develop test procedures.
Exhibits a strong understanding of the process methodology of calibration tuning.
Experience in debugging and resolving hardware and software issues.
Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
Ability to instrument a vehicle and operate data acquisition systems (ETAS)
Knowledge of Vehicle Emissions / OBD Regulations
Technical knowledge of Vehicle Control Systems
Extensive knowledge of the fundaments of the internal combustion engines
Knowledge of OBD Regulations and OBD Monitor Systems
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrated integrity and ethical behavior.
Strong knowledge in propulsion system principles and operation
A proven track record of engineering projects related to vehicle emission testing and knowledge in vehicle test procedures including calibration process/methodology
Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.) and instrumentation/operation of data acquisition systems such as ETAS/INCA
Knowledge of vehicle emission, OBD regulations, and OBD Monitor Systems
Good written/oral communication and interpersonal skills

Basic Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related engineering degrees from an accredited university
3-6 years of automotive engineering experience
Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications
M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related fields
Experience in production automotive control systems design, test, debug, or calibration: ECUs, sensors, actuators, CAN, embedded software, etc.
Experience using MathWorks products for physical modelling, verification/validation/test, and/or code generation.
BEV and/or Hybrid-Electric vehicle (HEV, PHEV) development experience
Knowledge of calibration process using design of experiments and optimization techniques
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink
Experience in Python and/or C programming
