Summary of Position:
The HR Compliance and Investigation Specialist is responsible for supporting a wide range of HR compliance initiatives. Primary responsibilities investigating and managing complex, sensitive, high-risk employee relations related cases, completing process/record retention audits, tracking/analyzing data, and taking appropriate actions for correction.As an investigator, this role will review and analyze the current investigation processes and make suggestions for proactive strategies to minimize employee relations claims against the company. The successful candidate will collaboratively work to deliver efficient and systematic resolution to investigationsand serve as the in-house expert on the investigative process and procedure. This role is expected to work effectively across business units to drive consistency and mitigate risk.The HR Compliance and Investigation Specialist will be heavily involved with development and delivery of trainingsto HR support on topics related to conducting thorough on-site investigations, determination of disciplinary action and documentation retention.
This position is located at our North American Headquarters, located in Southfield, MI and reports to the Senior HR Compliance Manager.
Key Accountabilities:
Assessment of incoming complaints of discrimination, harassment, and misconduct based on protected identity, including complaints of sexual misconduct.
Prepare effective investigative plans. Collect and analyze witness statements, documentary evidence, and identification of the applicable company policy and/or employment law.
Conduct confidential, thorough, and impartial investigations through unbiased interviews, and evaluation of all relevant information.
Prepare high quality investigative reports that provide a clear and logical account of the allegation(s), investigative work performed, key findings, and recommendation of corrective action.
Establish and document timely communication with all parties, including those with a need to know,in order torecommend/make appropriate and timely decisions.
Lead debrief meetings in partnership with the appropriate HR support, leadership, legal, and other stakeholders as required.
Electronically manage investigation reports, including all relevant supporting documentation.
Effectively articulate issues, in the form of findings and conclusions, so that long-term risk mitigating solutions can be developed and applied.
Provide supportive and protective measures, guidance, and assistance to complainants and respondents.
Conduct review of investigations conducted by customer-facing HR team members.
Easily develop trust and rapport with HR support, legal, and business leaders.
Use a high degree of empathy balanced against an ability to provide direct feedback, to handle sensitive and confidential information, and navigate through difficult and uncomfortable situations.
Train, coach,andmentor the HR teamoninvestigation best practices.
Knowledgeably interpret, and apply, federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws, or regulations.
Assist the Sr HR Compliance Manager with audits, collecting and analyzing data, maintenance of electronic files, development of work instructions, and training.
Liaison with external counsel on company immigration administration
Travel requirement - up to 30% domestic travel

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in Human Resources as a HRBP or higher position or HR Investigator
3-5 years of experience conducting complex and sensitive workplace investigations
Working knowledge of multi-state employment laws and workplace issue resolution techniques/methods
Strong oral and written communication skills; includes creating and delivering training
Must have strong critical and strategic thinking skills
Proven experience with successfully influencing at all levels of an organization
Preferred Requirements:
Understanding of California Employment Law
Experience providing Human Resources support in a matrix organization
Dedicated experience as an employee relations investigator including experience with investigations in a manufacturing or operations environment
Experience with an organization heavily utilizing staffing agencies to meet production goals
