POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for working closely with the golf course Superintendent and golf operations to ensure a smooth transition for members and guests. In this role, the course Groundskeeper is to provide professional landscaping and lawn maintenance services for all golf course and clubhouse areas. This position is responsible for performing ongoing landscaping tasks, course groundskeeping as well as routine maintenance of all landscaping equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Provide clear communication necessary to the Superintendent by radio transmission and
in person.
- Refers to all significant problems or complaints to the Superintendent and/or a manager.
- Operate all groundskeeping and landscaping equipment including an edger, mower, and trimmer and in accordance with safety guidelines and report any safety issues to the Superintendent.
- Grades and prepares a soil plant bed, lay sod, plants vegetative material, and pulls weeds.
- Edging of cart paths, flower beds, and walkways.
- Repairs ball marks on greens, tees, and fairways.
- Maintains bunkers and sand traps, changes holes, and performs other general grounds maintenance activities.
- Trim small trees, hedges, and shrubs.
- Water gardens and landscape areas.
- Mow, edge, and fertilize lawns, cart paths, flower beds, and walkways.
- Monitors and maintains plant health,
- Removes unwanted, dead, or damaged shrubbery, small trees, and plant material.
- Monitors the golf course for any suspicious activity.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Performs additional duties deemed necessary for groundskeeping as needed.
- Tracks and reports the need for supplies necessary for day-to-day operations of assigned areas.
- All job-related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, executives, Board of Directors, customers, and outside vendor/service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical factors include constant standing, walking, reaching, hearing, smell, and near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, color/field of vision. Frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to work outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions. Working conditions include constant exposure to noise. Potential hazards include working with client contact; fertilizers, and frequent equipment use. Ability to stand, kneel, and bend over for 6-8 hours.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Previous groundskeeping and landscaping experience in a golf course setting preferred. Knowledge of golf preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience operating small to heavy machinery relating to groundskeeping equipment required.
Certification/License:
Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.

Must be able to follow instructions when operating cars, machinery, or equipment to ensure safety for all team members, members, and guests. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to deal effectively with the public. Must be able to prioritize work duties to accommodate the facility. Must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate clearly in person, by use of radio transmission, in writing, and by telephone and email. Must be able to promote good public relations in a cooperative, productive working environment. Must be able to respond to difficult and stressful situations in an efficient, effective, and positive manner. Must be able to analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action. Native American preferred.
