The Michigan Department of Treasury’s Tax Compliance Bureau has many field auditor positions available. No experience is required and on the job training will be provided! Applicants will need at least 24 credits in Accounting to apply.
Field Auditors are responsible for conducting professional audit examinations on behalf of the department. They help taxpayers determine if all returns have been filed appropriately and proper tax liability amounts remitted. Travel is required to engage with taxpayers as necessary.
The position is primarily remote, but employees will also select a physical office designation at one of the following locations :
- Detroit
- Dimondale
- Flint
- Grand Rapids
- Saginaw
- Sterling Heights

Tax Compliance Bureau staff whose principal work location is in Michigan are compensated at a premium pay rate (20% of employee’s hourly salary) while in the field performing out-of-state audits and while in travel status.
