GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for coordinating and managing day to day Processing, and at certain campuses phlebotomy, laboratory operation. Responsible for staff supervision, training, patient/client concerns, process improvement, maintenance of procedure manuals and staff education. This position reports to the Lab Manager Processing or Lab Operations Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Supervises staff and workflow. Does employee scheduling, e-time, attendance records and work
assignments etc.
2. Manages personnel functions such as interviewing/hiring, evaluations, counseling and corrective
actions as needed.
3. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all policies and procedures required by hospital, laboratory, and any governing regulatory agencies to assure the ongoing safe and efficient daily operation of processing/phlebotomy services. Support and monitor customer, and employee service expectations.
4. Ensures that the staff is properly trained according to ISO/CAP guidelines; monitors staff competency
and keeps staff apprised of changes in policies/procedures and in hospital/regulatory requirements.
5. Participates in process improvement programs, continuously monitors operations for cost, service and
operational effectiveness. Assists in ISO and CAP compliance Audits.
6. Assist in resolving client/patient concerns.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education / Training:
* Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
B. Work Experience:
* Required: Previous supervisory experience (1-3 years), specimen processing/collection experience (7 years).
* Preferred: Commercial laboratory experience, patient registration.
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
* Successful completion of Epic Registration training and testing requirements (Outreach only).
D. Other Qualifications:
* Computer experience (Windows, Word, Excel), outstanding interpersonal, organizational and customer
* service skills.
* Excellent problem-solving skills.
* Must understand the differences and similarities within the Processing lab operation from shift to shift and work closely with the Central Processing Manager.
* Must be flexible and open to change as the lab is continuously undergoing process improvement.
* Needs to be able to motivate staff that changes are positive and in the best interest of patient care and our client needs.

A. Physical Effort:
* Requires considerable walking and standing.
* Occasional light lifting to store supplies.
B. Work Environment:
* Works in a clinical laboratory and works with hazardous reagents and infectious materials.
