JOB DUTIES:
Performs technical and clerical support functions to assist pharmacists. Includes packaging and labeling doses and documenting prescription on patient profile; receiving written prescriptions and containers from patients for processing; answers incoming calls; transcribing information and referring calls to pharmacist.
Additionally:
- Checks patient insurance eligibility status and determines the level of prescription benefit coverage
- Enters patient demographic, medical history and required pharmacy insurance information into computer patient profile
- Maintains and monitors drug inventory in dispensing areas and reports status of low reserve stocks in a timely manner
- Assists with inventory reviews and purchasing functions and responsible for the stocking of pharmacy inventory
- Prepares patient prescriptions; set up drugs, labels, containers, etc. under direct supervision of the pharmacist
- Responsible for processing pharmacy drug claims, communicating all drug-to-drug interactions and insurance issues to pharmacist immediately as well as processing prescriptions according to FQHC guidelines that relates to 3408 and retail stores
- Prepares drug stock orders to for distribution to other The Wellness Plan Medical Centers (TWPMC) Pharmacies under supervision of the pharmacist
- Prepares drug stock orders for clinic areas upon request under the supervision of the pharmacist
- Adhere to corporate and departmental policies, practices and procedures
- Participate in and supports performance management process

- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities at the department and corporate level
- Support an environment that fosters diversity and recognizes the contributions of all individuals
- Ensures that The Wellness Plan is in compliance with privacy and security regulatory requirements of the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned
MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS:
Formal education required: High school graduate and 2-years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician. Knowledge of computer-based pharmacy systems. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Good judgment and conceptual skills. Good organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Available to work flexible hours. Desirable: Completion of pharmacy technician program and experience in a retail environment. Computer Skills: Word, Outlook, Excel and web navigation skills.
