Position Summary:
Performs resident treatment and preventative medical treatment, as appropriate. Provide documentation. Ensure compliance and standards are upheld.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform resident examinations and treatments as needed. Provide assessment and diagnostic services to assigned residents. Use assessment techniques including observation, inspection, auscultation, percussion, and palpation. Perform evaluations and examinations.
- Order, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess resident’s clinical problems and health care needs. Report these to the attending physician and others, as appropriate.
- Provide, within established protocols and under the supervision of the physician, treatment for uncomplicated conditions, as agreed upon in writing.
- Provide surveillance of medical regimens for chronically ill persons, adjust regiments within established protocols, and recognize when to refer to physician.
- Coordinate the admission or discharge of residents, as necessary.
- Assist in resident rehabilitation and therapy activities. Monitor results.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
- Contact physicians with updated resident medical needs. Evaluate, coordinate and transcribe physician orders as they are written.
- Respond to resident emergency needs in the community.
- Maintain updated resident assessments/care plans.
- Evaluate and make recommendations to Director and others, as needed, regarding resident change in condition and/or placement. /serve on the care plan team and work with the team in developing a comprehensive assessment and care plan for residents.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to attending physician, Medical Director and/or Administrator/Director concerning the status and care of the assigned resident.
- Assist in monitoring the inventory of medications, supplies and equipment to ensure that an adequate supply is on hand and to ensure appropriate dispensation.
- Maintain an effective, friendly working relationship with health professionals, physicians, consultants, and family members.
- Supervise, coach and evaluate care giving team members.
- Ensure that nursing staff follows regulations and policies.
Education and Experience:
- Possess and maintain a valid, current and unencumbered nursing license (RN/LPN) for the State of Michigan.
- Clinical experience as a nurse, in an acute care, long term care, assisted living community or other related health care setting preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to make independent decisions within scope of practice when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to deal tactfully and communicate with team members, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public with patience and a cheerful disposition.
- Ability to work in a multi-faceted role.
- Ability to work extended or flexible hours, as necessary, and work on-call shifts according to Department protocol.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Willingness to handle difficult residents.
