ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all pharmacological aspects of multiple, simultaneous client studies in a predominantly hands-on fashion.
- Liaise with fellow imaging and pharmacology staff to provide quality service to clients. Set and adhere to realistic experimental timelines and communicate those with clients and staff.
- Expertise of small animal handling and manipulation/restraint to include procedures not limited to dosing, measuring, weighing, and surgeries; ex vivo: necropsy and sampling which may include PK/PD. In-depth understanding of clinical signs and underlying potential causes.
- Possess an in-depth understanding of multiple disease models and related pharmacology, biology, procedures and data generation.
- Responsible for deadline-based creation and compilation of draft client final reports to include Materials and Methods, Toxicity, Efficacy, Results, and Discussion Sections with the inclusion of all raw data.
- Possess scientific writing and data analysis skills.
- Drafting of SOPs, animal protocol applications and other documents.
- Manage study-related client communications with complexity and depth of communications expected to be higher than for Lead. Responsible for provision of timely updates to include analysis as necessary. May participate in protocol design and provide advice ad-hoc.
- Independent co-ordination and scheduling of inter-team studies and projects.
- Study protocol design and issuance of client bids.
- Possess an understanding of basic preclinical imaging across one or more modalities.
- Autonomously perform drug preparation. Knowledge of underlying calculations and ability to follow clients’ specifications.
- Ability to accurately conduct statistical analyses. Moderate understanding of calculations and underlying theories.
- Management of technicians. Responsible for all aspects of subordinates’ career growth, including but not limited to, work flow scheduling, training, safety, personnel actions (assist with hiring, firing, transfers) and deliverance of annual performance and salary reviews. Ultimately, responsible for quality and quantity of output.
- Conduct independent training of techs to full certification.
- Utmost attention and awareness of humane animal care practices and initiatives to be applied in daily work. In-depth knowledge of Animal Care and Use principles and applications.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures, Vertebrate Use Protocols and other applicable regulations. May be responsible for creation and maintenance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned. May lead special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in life sciences or related discipline.
- EXPERIENCE: One to five years of increasingly-progressive experience desired
- CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: LAT Certification strongly preferred
- OTHER: Strong interpersonal, written communication, organizational and project/personnel management skills required. Computer literacy required. Expertise in small animal pharmacology with an emphasis on oncology and inflammation preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Works in a research environment with exposure to sharps and potentially caustic chemicals and substances of unknown hazard. Must function while adhering to various PPE requirements. Noise level in Vivarium is moderate to loud.
- Ability to lift 10 pounds and bend and move within rack/bubble environment.
- Regularly works with animals with risk of exposure to allergens, zoonotic diseases and biohazards.
- Laboratory is BioSafety Level II.
ADDITIONAL
- This position requires overtime, weekend, holiday and/or afterhours shift coverage, as needed.
