Position: Sub-Assembly Trainee
Reports To: Director of Operations
Status: Non-Exempt
BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:
Will be trained to lay-out, fabricate, assemble, install and join various parts, thermoplastic parts, doors and assemblies into helicopter fuselage according to blueprints and specifications using hand and power tools, molds and vacuum forming equipment.
ADDITIONAL GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:
Will be taught to do the following:
Fabricate thermoplastic parts by laying out cutting lines on proper size plastic sheets for specific part according to part size. Form parts using forming block, air mold or vacuum machine. Check windshields and other parts for clarity, distortions and other defects. Reheat and remold to eliminate defects. Trim and route parts. Fit and bond parts to assemble larger parts or reinforce parts. Hand rivet gas tanks and bonds. Install gas tank hardware such as cover opening and fuel line opening by riveting bonding and clamping. Install electrical terminal boards and assist in stringing electrical wires and install lines to be connected later.
Assemble, fit and mount doors and install door locking and latching mechanisms. Route door with template to form vent hole to openings, final trims, drills, refits, bonds and rivets. Install windshield and cabin windows, fit to openings, final trims, drills, refits, bonds, and rivets.
Build up seat structure assemblies by installing torque tubes, linkages, cams, lever, pedal brackets, linkage system, cyclic stick linkages, and push-pull arms. Align seat structure and bolt into cabin frame and bonds. Rivet back panel onto cabin and install sound deadener and fire wall. Attaches cabin and tail cone to pylon. Install tail rotor drive shaft, gas tanks, baggage box, cowling, air scoops and tail stabilizers.
Observes all safety regulations. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Previous Mechanic experience. Automotive is a plus.
- Experience in Sheet Metal fabrication or production assembly
- Experience reading and understanding blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to do precision work with hands.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools required.
- Ability to install parts.
- Ability to use required precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to work without extensive supervision.
- Ability to use basic shop mathematics.
