Summary: Supports the development of new products through design, analysis, technical support, problem solving, root cause analysis, and project management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned): Provide technical support to department projects through design, analysis, and test support Uses engineering principals frequently to solve problems
o Will involve utilizing EMP DMAIC process
o Skilled in root cause analysis techniques Uses engineering principles to perform calculations on a regular basis
o Bearing life calculations
o Stress/strain calculations
o Fatigue life calculations
o Power consumption, parasitic loss Understands GD&T, DFMEA, DFM techniques Interface with customers and suppliers regarding technical matters. Prepare and present technical reports, presentations, design proposals, and project timelines to customers and management. Specify and participate in testing, fabrication, and assembly of advanced products. Initiate and foster relationships with supplier / partner companies. Independently develop timelines and personal goals to meet customer and/or company expectations and goals. Manage moderate sized product development programs. Work with Program Manager or Sr. Dev. Engineer.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May guide the work schedule of co-op students. In the process of managing a project, a Product Development Engineer may provide direction to Lab Technicians, Associate Engineers and interns that are supporting that project.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 3 -7 years of relevant work experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstracts and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
Skilled in the use of general office software packages such as; Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. Proficiency in specialty software packages such as CFX, Imagine AmeSim, Matlab, MathCAD, Pro-E, IDEAS, Labview, Mechanica, Pspice etc, may be required dependant upon the assignments of the individual.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Work Environment
Job duties may require that the employee spend a significant amount of time in the shop and fabrication areas, as well as at the computer workstation. Vehicle calibration and testing may require occasional travel to test facilities and execution of tasks out of doors.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
