DOCK FOREMAN
AJM Packaging, a rapidly growing Manufacturer of Consumer Paper Products is currently looking to add a dock foreman to our facility in Southgate, MI.
SUMMARY
Provide overall organization and direction of all dock activities and perform tasks related to the orderly and accurate flow of materials being shipped or received.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Check and verify incoming and outgoing loads to ensure the accurately reflect what is detailed in the paperwork and be able to accurately process all required paperwork. Any discrepancies between the load and paperwork must be noted and documented, as well as, any damage to loads.
- Maintain a well-organized staging area. Direct the staging of loads to minimize the loading and unloading times and maximize the flow of goods in and out of the dock area.
- Review overall operation and processes and identify areas for improvement for all functions. Be able to offer recommendations for improvement and be able to successfully implement changes.
- As required, conduct accurate cycle counts of product in order to maintain accurate inventories and minimize possibility of discrepancies.
- Supervise staff to include but not limited to: designating work assignments, providing instruction, reviewing completed work and providing input for performance appraisals.
- Provide continuing oversight and training of staff in order to increase their levels of knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Do “build-ups” of shipped materials. May require reconfiguring, restacking and rewrapping of pallets to meet shipping requirements.
- Ensure that staff strictly adheres to all safety rules, guidelines and procedures.
- Complete all other duties the Supervisor deems necessary.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school degree with preference for college degree. Five years or more of large scale dock, shipping/receiving experience with previous supervisory experience preferrably in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Must possess supervisory experience and leadership skills.
- Must possess strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Must have large scale dock experience.
- Must possess strong attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of most basic computer programs would be helpful.
- Be able to successfully manage multiple tasks.
- Be able to operate a fork lift.
- Be able to perform all physical components of the position, with reasonable accommodation if required.
