Leads, instructs, and motivates individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercise, yoga, aquatic exercise, strength training, and stretching. Designs and carries out workout routines specific to the needs of clients with the goal of helping clients improve overall wellness.
Demonstrates the correct way to use exercise equipment and how to carry out various exercises and routines.
Observes clients perform exercises, provides feedback and shows/tells them correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness.
Gives alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill.
Monitors clients' progress and adapts programs as needed.
Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment.
Gives clients information or resources about nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues.
Identifies and meets the client's goals and needs; provides related instruction.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. May develop and conduct in-service training programs.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Associate degree related to a health or fitness field, such as exercise science, kinesiology, or physical education.
Basic Water Safety trained.
Competency in applying the principles, methods, materials, and equipment necessary in providing fitness instruction.
