CNC Applications Tech
Implement plans created by a CNC programmer to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Preparing and operating CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc.
Understanding specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc.
Translating instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
CNC Operators are highly skilled professionals, able to work with great concentration and precision. They must be responsible and comply with all safety guidelines. A keen eye for detail and great mechanical aptitude are also essential.
Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc.
Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specification
Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts
Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming
Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
Good communication abilities
Start up and debug of CNC program from initial communications through to complete auto cycle.
Perform customer machine exceptions (quality and function).
Implementation of machine NC programs and recovery tools.
Mark-up and updating of tool layout drawings including sequencing, speed & feeds, depths, etc.
Ability to read CMM inspection reports and make machine adjustments to NC programs accordingly.
Uses established quality and environmental systems, including job procedures, work instructions and forms.
Accepts responsibility for the assigned project and job requirements and effectively communicates problems or concerns working toward a quick and satisfactory resolution.
Accurately and timely completes service reports, progress reports, checklists and correspondence to internal and external colleagues, customers and suppliers.
Shares ideas for process improvements and other cost saving measures to management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with six to eight years of machine tool experience or Associate's degree (A.A.) plus four to six years of machine tool experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Working knowledge of blue prints, and fluids, and electrical drawings; basic experience with industry-related mechanical components and assemblies; extensive knowledge in programmaing for related equipment and software/hardware are required. Must be willing to travel for field installations.
