The Cardiologist is Board Certified/Board eligible & manages disorders of the heart. The field includes medical diagnosis & treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease with competencies including cardiology consultation, ECG, Holter interpretation, cardiac Catheterization and/or pacemaker implantation (preferred), Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE), & cardioversions. Exercise Stress Testing & Transthoracic Echocardiogram interpretation. Duties include but are not limited to:
- In addition, the Cardiologist will diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiac diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques. You will provide services such as outpatient examinations, consultation services related to cardiology, management of patients with current treatment regiment, and admission status as necessary.
- The Cardiologist will be required to maintain BLS certification and ACLS. You will attend cardiology team meetings, Medicine Service meetings, and meetings with other medical center staff. You may be asked to serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, assist our facility to meet established performance measures in the area of cardiology, and such other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff or the Director. You will perform chart reviews and coordinate with Hospitalist regarding patient care issues. You will be responsible to document patient care data in electronic medical records such as history and physical exams within 24 hours; encounters for outpatients; consult notes; and, enter new and renewal of prescriptions. Physical Requirements: Occasionally perform Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.); straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder; walking (up to 3 hours); standing (up to 3 hours); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Repetitive motions: constant substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) before the starting date of the position. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining, and maintaining, current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. No online certifications will be accepted.

Basic Requirements: * United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. * Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. * Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. * Residency Training: Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. * English Language Proficiency:Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications: Prefer cardiologist who is competent with cardiac device interrogation and transesophageal echoes. ACLS and BLS mandatory.
