Duties and Responsibilities:Charges melt furnacesCleans furnaces and launders as scheduledSamples specific gravity of furnaces and adjusts as neededReceives and unloads incoming metal shipmentsMonitors furnace temperaturesComplete necessary record keepingAssists in equipment repairsRequired to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties upon request of the supervisorComplies with the following OSHA Safety Standards: Hazard Communication; Bloodborne Pathogens; Lockout; Permit Required Confined Space; Hot Work Permit; Powered Industrial Trucks; P.P.E. and ErgonomicsWhen necessary, participate in classes and training seminars to learn new technologies and techniques deemed helpful to performance on the jobMonitors metal level in launder and taps metal out of reverbs as neededMonitors metal level in reverb, adjusts reverb temperature and charges metal sows, scrap castings, and gates as needed Makes alloy additions to the reverb as instructed by Lab personnelVerify quantities on scrap tickets brought to the reverb area.Flux, scrape, and skim holding furnaces, casting furnaces, and launders as assignedRemoves metal buildup on outside of furnaces and casters as neededFlux, scrape, and skim portions of reverb furnaces as assigned.Pull metal sample from holders and casters according to specified minimum frequencies and places them under vacuum bellVerify that vacuum stand is operating correctlyWeigh solidified sample and determine the specific gravity of the sampleAdjust degasser settings as neededAdd hydrogen tablets to metal as neededInspect metal prior to offloading to ensure that it was approved by the lab and that there is no moisture or contaminants on the sowsOff load the metal with a lift truck and stack it in the appropriate areaCheck furnace temperatures according to specified minimum frequencies.Check furnace amperages according to specified minimum frequenciesContact supervision and/maintenance as needed to ensure any issues are addressed.Fill out the appropriate melt forms at the proper times and in a legible manners and files them in the correct locationsAssist the Melt Operator and Maintenance personnel with repairs to melt equipmentOther duties as assigned
Requirements:
Works in a fast-paced environment under minimum supervision. Routine responsibilities and duties involve the use of various procedures and the application of clearly prescribed standards of practice, requiring the use of good judgment. Must work with a high degree of accuracyThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The job works in conditions with constant exposure (67% or more) to noise, odors, dust, drafts, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc. Some travel may be required.Repetitive lifting of objectsRepetitive manual movements Carrying pushing or pulling objects Sustained visual concentration on small areas, such as monitors, screens or numbers, legal documentsPrecise eye/hand coordination
