Job Summary
Working as embedded technical expert as part of an integrated cross-functional team, the Analytics Data Engineer Senior Analyst develops data solutions for analytics projects in their immediate business unit. This role is expected to provide expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of relational databases using supported enterprise IT platforms and guidelines. Analytics Data Engineers excel at wrangling data, and integrating data from non-traditional sources like NoSQL databases, web services/APIs, and flat text files. To support these needs, Analytics Data Engineers work in conjunction with Information Services to research, prototype, and pilot emerging analytics tools and platforms.
Essential Functions
Provides technical expertise to develop data solutions that solve the needs of the immediate business unit.
Works closely with related teams and departments to optimize data use and sharing to avoid duplication of resources
Develops robust ETL work flows and automates data flows where possible, interacting with and using frameworks and tools such as SQL, Excel, Python and Apache Airflow
Provides oversight and mentorship on data design and development workflows for the analytics team
Creates flexible solutions for storing, integrating and leveraging both external and internal data. Performs rapid data profiling of internal and external data sources to determine quality and value to business questions.
May assist in the development of data visualizations using modern tools and frameworks (Tableau, D3, JS, R, RShiny, matplotlib, Dash or similar)
Develops subject matter expertise in their embedded area and counsels business analysts on available data sources and potential biases within datasets.
Serves as a data steward in data governance efforts.
Provides analytical, technical and professional mentorship to Analytics Data Engineer Analysts and Associates.
Qualifications
Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in computer science, application programming, software development, information systems, database administration, mathematics, engineering, or other related field
Preferred Master's Degree or equivalent in computer science, application programming, software development, information systems, database administration, mathematics, engineering, or other related field
