The opportunity
Our USGO Great Lakes - Gaylord Area team is seeking a Corrosion Technician in Michigan to detect the existence, cause, and source of pipeline corrosion affecting our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout the Kalkaska, Gaylord, and Mancelona areas, controlling the same.
This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who is highly organized and possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Depending on the location of the successful candidate, this position may be filled in Kalkaska, MI or Mancelona, MI.
What you'll do
Conduct periodic resistivity and potential surveys on pipelines, compressor stations, and measurement and regulation facilities to determine corrosive areas and record performance of cathodic protection systems
Check rectifiers and magnesium anode installations and determine operating efficiency
Assist in analyzing troublesome areas and recommend solutions
Install interference bonds in cooperation with other companies
Assist in conducting current requirement tests for new ground bed installations
Maintain records of operation and maintenance of cathodic protection equipment
Direct maintenance of cathodic protection equipment
Conduct close interval surveys in small segments and oversee the CIS being performed by contractors
Detect and conduct the repair of shorted road casings
Identify corrosion issues to be addressed by Engineering Services
Check electrolysis bonds and conduct potential surveys on protected high-pressure lines
Atmospheric corrosion, surface preparation and coating application inspections
Internal corrosion related sampling activities (liquid sampling, coupon removal/installation, etc.)
Maintain RMU units installed on rectifiers
Participate in PHMSA inspections
Lead contractors during CP construction
Operate and maintain equipment (Marsh Master, side-by-side, ATV, snowmobile, trailer, etc.)
Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
Other tasks as required to include various duties at compressor stations
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous pipeline corrosion experience
Preferred Qualifications
NACE CP Level 1 certification or the ability to obtain the certification post-hire
Experience reading, comprehending, and applying DOT codes and ANSI/AMSE standards
Knowledge of the installation of impressed current ground beds and rectifiers
4 - 5 years of experience performing test point surveys with a field data logger (Allegro, etc.)
NACE CP Level 2 and CIP Level 1 certifications
This position requires candidates to
Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
Obtain TC Energy DOT driver status
Obtain operator qualifications to perform various tasks
Become an OQ evaluator
Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
