POSITION DESCRIPTION
The basic function of the Pretreatment System Operator is to operate the wastewater pretreatment system at Wolverine Plating. This includes the treatment, monitoring, and testing of process wastewater prior to discharge, as well as the generation and disposal of solid waste (filter cake) generated in the treatment of wastewater from the production processes.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: 2+ years of experience in plating pretreatment system operation and waste management with increasing levels of responsibility. Requires knowledge and understanding of hazardous waste and water pollution standards and regulations.
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities: The possession of oral and written communication skills is required. Must be organized, and able to make efficient use of time. Must possess sound management skills, and the willingness and ability to improve the existing skills.
Physical: Body Movements: The position requires arm and hand dexterity; must be able to walk, squat, stoop, bend, and turn; and must be able to move one's head, neck, and back. Must be able to climb a ladder and negotiate all body movements associated with automobile and airplane travel.
Must be able to lift or move up to 100 pounds.
Mental: Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Must possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to objectively listen and evaluate ideas from inside and outside the Company.
DUTIES & TASKS
- Maintain and operate the pretreatment system including monitoring chemicals, maintaining filters, motors, pumps, and compressors, and operating cleaning system, gravity settler, clarifier, filter press, etc.
- Clean and calibrate all pH and ORP probes and meters weekly.
- Generate and manage all solid waste produced from the plating and wastewater treatment processes.
- Manage hazardous waste roll-off boxes.
- Organize and track all recyclable drums and have them removed when they accumulate.
- Neutralize all outdated and obsolete chemicals and arrange for their disposal.
- Assist with all other chemical handling requirements as directed by the Regulatory Compliance Officer.
- Make up and maintain off-line wax and seal tanks and log their concentrations and pH.
- Perform all other tasks as required by supervisor(s).
