Purpose Using a person-centered, compassionate approach, the RA ensures residents of St. Ann’s are given care of the highest quality, encompassing all elements of physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while helping residents live their lives with dignity and to the fullest.

- Advocates for the resident, helping to meet their daily routines, needs, and desires while also bringing new needs or concerns forward to the nurse.
- Learns the residents’ needs, desires and care plans, and helps to communicate them in a timely way to other staff as needed.
- Creates and maintains an atmosphere of caring, calm, dignity, and personal interest.
- Regularly converses with residents to ensure care needs are being met in accordance with their wishes.
Quality-driven
- Provides a safe and secure setting according to the plan of care. Follows established safety practices.
- Completes all charting as needed on a timely basis.
- Assists or performs daily routines of care as needed while preserving and advocating for dignity (i.e. dressing, shaving, mouth care, showering, incontinence care, etc.).
- Takes and records vital signs, weights, temperatures, pulse, blood pressure, and other measurements as required by the care plan or as otherwise directed.
- Ensures call lights are answered promptly.
- Assists residents with being on time and appropriately prepared for activities and meals.
- Carefully observes and reports the presence of skin tears, pressure sores, and injuries of unknown origin.
- Reports any changes in condition, including physical, mental, emotional states.
Compassionate
- Performs and charts range of motion exercises, and turns bedfast residents as directed by the care plan.
- Assists with pain management as directed by the care plan or nurse.
- Assists with the care of dying residents as directed by the nurse.
- Assists with post-mortem care as directed by the nurse.
The above job duties are the general framework of this position, and it is expected the employee will be empowered to discern when other action is necessary, seeking always to demonstrate excellence and compassion. Further duties may be assigned as needed.

- Knowledge of electronic medical record software or ability to quickly learn software.
- Mental, emotional, and physical strength and stamina to perform the work required above with or without reasonable accommodation.
- English language fluently in order to communicate with patients, families, care team, and other team members in written and verbal form.
- Passed a drug screen, 25lb lift test, and general pre-employment physical.
- Maintenance of ongoing required trainings.
- Deep commitment to attendance to agreed-upon schedule in order to meet the needs of the residents and families within the scope of this position’s care.
