Arcadis is searching for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Planning & Process Engineer to join our world-class firm in Detroit, MI. Candidates are asked to speak to their interest in living and working in the Detroit metro area as this position will ideally be a long-term placement in the Detroit office.
Our team helps clients achieve business objectives by creating and implementing innovative and effective solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure assets and this is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country!
In this position, you will utilize your expertise and technical knowledge of wastewater facilities to develop alternatives evaluations, studies, and preliminary designs for pump stations, collection systems and various treatment plant process trains. Evaluations would include those for wet weather/high flow conditions, sustainability, power and chemical cost optimization, and improved operations and maintenance.
You will work closely with project managers and account leaders in supporting clients and projects within the Arcadis Midwest region with an initial focus on Detroit and Michigan. This role will also support design and construction teams in the implementation of recommended alternatives.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Provide technical support for project execution & delivery - support project managers and account leaders in the development and execution of wastewater process evaluations, studies and preliminary designs, including but not limited to primary, secondary, and biosolids processes, Wastewater treatment plant and/or wastewater collection system master planning.
Assist in activities associated with client interaction, proposal development and interview preparation and delivery, with the primary intent of winning specific project work.
The scope of work will vary by project, but the focus will be on process engineering, promotion of best practices for process design and major process mechanical systems and establishment of design criteria.
Evaluations will include those for wet weather/high flow conditions, sustainability, power and chemical cost optimization and improved operations and maintenance.
Support design and construction teams in the implementation of recommended alternatives, including participating in design work as needed.
Technical support for regional business development activities (e.g.Face-to-face client interactions, site visits, technical training for client staff, workshop presentations on treatment technology, planning, regulatory frameworks, etc.)
Engage in active membership in state, regional and national professional associations including, Water Environment Federation, and others as appropriate including local affiliates (e.g. d elivery of papers, presentations, workshops and webinars at conferences and symposia, participation in technical training workshops and seminars, and involvement in committee leadership as appropriate.)
Interact with clients, local and remote Arcadis staff, permitting agencies and other consulting firms in the execution of engineering projects.
Gather information, develop and evaluate alternatives, and prepare engineering reports.
Perform engineering analyses, modeling, and calculations and prepare or support preparation detailed design drawings and specifications.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KEY ATTRIBUTES
Strong interpersonal abilities for leading and/or working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
Wastewater process modeling using BioWin or other modeling platform helpful but not required.
Experience conducting wastewater process evaluations, studies and preliminary designs.
Understanding of wastewater processes and wastewater process mechanical systems.
Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical or Environmental engineering.
EIT, or ability to obtain one within 1 year of employment, is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's in related fields.
Local candidate preferred, or someone who has a vested interest in the Detroit metro area.
