Summary:
The Clinical Rehabilitation Educator (CRE) provides development expertise for licensed and unlicensed rehabilitation staff by functioning as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, and leader. The educator supports the development of the rehabilitation staff and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based Occupational, Physical and Speech Language Pathology therapy practice. The CRE supports maintenance of competency and fosters empowerment to achieve excellence in the delivery of evidenced based rehabilitation therapy practice. The CRE utilizes the educational process of assessment of initial and ongoing learning needs; development, planning, and implementation of programs to meet the identified needs; and evaluation of programmatic and individual competency outcomes of the learner, patient care and the organization as well as continuing education and leadership development for therapists caring for those with physical disability and chronic illness. In addition, as a member of the Inpatient Therapy Leadership Team, the CRE serves as role model of professional conduct and plays a vital role in creating a professional rehabilitation climate at MFB to meet our diverse needs.
Rehabilitation Therapists at Mary Free Bed are key members of the interdisciplinary team who collaborate to provide patient-centered care. Within the therapy department, Physical Therapists (PT) Occupational Therapists (OT) and Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) coordinate, direct, delegate, and provide care to multiple patients. Using a patient and family-centered care approach, each therapist develops relationships with patients, families, and colleagues that enhance the quality of care provided. Therapy is performed with compassion and courtesy, and each therapist is responsible to follow departmental policies and service standards. Patient and family education is a primary focus of rehabilitation therapy, and a critical aspect of the interdisciplinary team's efforts to assist patients to gain independence, apply adaptation strategies, and return to home.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Orientation: Designs process to assess and develop competencies to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to function in the rehabilitation setting. Coordinates orientation of new staff to the organization.
Staff development: Assists the learner to apply theory to practice and to maintain and enhance competency. Assists learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes. Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
Continuing education: Designs opportunities that enhance the practice of inpatient rehabilitation; assists the learner to comply with licensure and certification requirements
In-service education: Designs programs to increase competence in a specific area of practice, such as training in the use of new equipment and review of policies, procedures, and protocols that are required for the learner to function within a specified setting
Patient education: Organizes patient education activities, instructs learners as to educational strategies, and/or assists in the development of patient education materials
Therapist Role
In addition to the job duties of the CRE, the individual will Performs Essential Job duties outlined in their respective licensed role to maintain licensure and awareness of clinically important needs.

Offers an educational perspective in all endeavors that affect OT, PT and SLP practice and patient care outcomes
Identifying changes that should be made in OT, PT and SLP practice using an evidence-based approach and facilitating the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change.
Acting as both a formal and informal consultant, assisting with the integration of new learning into therapy practice and serving as a resource by assisting therapists in identifying problems, identifying available internal and external educational resources, and selecting educational options
Designing, creating, and applying research by supporting the integration of research into practice and helping to develop staff members' knowledge and skills in the research process, as well as fostering the use of systematic evaluative research with regard to clinical, educational, and managerial data.
Participating in and using evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, OT, PT and SLP practice, and patient outcomes.
Collaborating with others in the practice of OT, PT, and SLP professional development at the institutional, local, regional and state levels.

Collaborates with rehabilitation experts to design educational offerings and learning experiences based on adult learning principles, current OT, PT and SLP theory, and the standards of OT, PT and SLP practice
Providing an appropriate climate for learning, and facilitate the adult learning process by developing, planning, and presenting educational activities and directly or indirectly fostering the development of competence in the therapy staff
