Summary:
The Lead Respiratory Therapist will work closely with the Respiratory Care Director to assist in quality improvement initiatives, policy and protocol development and review, staff selection, staff scheduling and payroll, departmental and staff growth, and any other projects as requested and discussed with the Respiratory Care Director.
The Lead Respiratory Therapist will function as a member of the clinical team, provides direct patient care, and promotes effective and harmonious team function through leadership, and clinical supervision. In addition, the Lead Respiratory Therapist is required to demonstrate EXCEPTIONAL customer service standards and behaviors, while encouraging, coaching, and mentoring employees at the same.

Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of respiratory as it relates to rehabilitation for assigned populations to assure and promote evidence-based practice.

The Lead Respiratory Therapist must deal discreetly and sensitively with confidential information, and complete customer service recovery for patients and families members.
The Lead Respiratory therapistis also responsible to maintain effective working relationships with staff and leaders from other departments and disciplines.

The Lead Respiratory Therapist will follow departmental policies and procedures related to payroll practices, patient chargeable items, and other opportunities to provide high-value care at a reasonable price to our customers.
Direct involvement and input to Respiratory Director for the budget process for equipment and supplies to meet the needs of the patients.
Continual assessment to improve workflow efficiency and reduce costs to safely provide Respiratory Care services to all patients at Mary Free Bed
Will participate in the development and growth of strategic programs within MFB.
Essential Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Education, and Training Requirements):
Licensed, Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of Michigan.
Associates degree is required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Strong critical thinking, decision-making, delegation, and leadership skills are required.
Time management and organizational skills are very important, as well as effective written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work effectively under time requirements and deadlines, problem-solve when facing unexpected issues, handle interruptions, and prioritize effectively.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The work environment described here are representative of those an employee will encounter while working as a Respiratory Therapist at Mary Free Bed. The ability to perform these tasks are required in order to provide the necessary patient care required by MFB patients:
Required to stand, sit, talk, type, read, and hear
Required to use hands and arms to handle, feel, carry and work
Required to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and rise from a kneeling position while performing patient care.
Required to be independently mobile, with frequent bending, and reaching overhead, for activities such as positioning and transferring of patients and equipment.
Must be able to exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects(*).
Due to possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous materials, must be able to understand and follow department policies related to employee safety.
Must be competent with computer systems for the purpose of documenting patient care.
