ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
High School education or G.E.D. desirable.
BCLS required.
Previous orderly or hospital associated experience desirable.
Successful completion of Medical Terminology course or demonstration of equivalent experience. Will be enrolled in Medical Terminology within first 6 months.
Exercises courtesy, pleasantness and tact in dealing with others in normal working conditions and stressful situations. Able to present a good hospital image to the public. Usually subject to elements of time pressure, constant interruption of activities, and noise.
May be required to work extra to cover sick, LOA's and vacations.
ORGANIZATION
Supervision received from the Manager of the Operating Room, Operating Room Coordinators, RN's and Surgical Techs.
Exercises no supervision activities.
Assist in orientation of new personnel.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, lift, and push for long periods of time, utilizing proper body mechanics.
Safely transports surgical patients to and from the operating room.
Cleans the OR Suites and equipment following hospital approved policies and procedures.
Assists with positioning and prepping patients within the OR.
Obtains equipment/supplies for the OR Staff, and returns them to their proper storage place when no longer in use.
Delegated by the Director of Surgical Services the ability to stock non-controlled medications in multiple locations in the OR. Delivers non-controlled medications to the OR Suite/Pre-Op Holding at the request of licensed personnel.
Maintains stocking levels within the OR of items not stocked by distribution.
Performs specimen hand-off safely. Understands proper handling of all specimens.
Opens sterile supplies as directed by the OR Staff, retrieves items from the autoclave following established procedures.
Maintains visibility in the OR area at all times and communicates with OR Staff when leaving the department. Wears a pager at all times. Communicates with other OR Aides in order to provide optimum support to the OR Suites.
Delivers/Retrieves items from other departments within the hospital as directed by charge nurse or OR Staff.
Answers telephone and takes messages as appropriate.
Safety is a self-responsibility. Know the physical requirements of the job and work within those guidelines. Perform job duties safely at all times, utilizing learned body mechanics and transferring/lifting techniques. Plan your actions to promote safety. Report any unsafe situation/equipment according to hospital procedure.
Follows all department policies/procedures/guidelines appropriate to their job description.
