Essential Functions (Job Duties)
The JETSCAPE collaboration has openings for several postdoctoral fellows in computational nuclear physics, as part of its second phase of operation. The JETSCAPE collaboration is tasked with the creation of event generator frameworks that will allow novice users to construct state-of-the-art simulators of sub-atomic collisions in a modular environment.
During its first phase, the collaboration released tools for the construction of event generators for heavy-ion
collisions at top RHIC and LHC energies, and associated Bayesian analysis tools to compare simulation results with experimental data.
In its second phase, the JETSCAPE collaboration will extend these frameworks to include small systems in p-A and p-p collisions, lower energy heavy-ion collisions relevant to the beam energy scan program, and simulators for electron-ion collisions.
The collaboration seeks a postdoctoral fellow interested in the combined, concurrent fluid dynamical and transport simulations relevant to lower energy heavy-ion collisions. The postdoctoral fellow position is initially for one year, and renewable for up to 3 years (pending satisfactory
performance).
Unique Duties
The fellow will spend part of his/her time at Wayne State University (USA) and the remainder at Goethe University in Frankfurt (Germany), transitioning at mutually agreeable dates. International candidates must be able to complete visa requirements in both countries. Employment requirements will be completed via Wayne State University or its subcontractors.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Physics prior to start of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with ostensive knowledge of simulation routines for heavy-ion collisions as well as computational techniques, including C++ and python, will be preferred.
