The Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is seeking applications for a full-time, one-year visiting faculty position with an anticipated start date in August 2021. Visiting positions may be renewed for up to three years depending on funding and Department, College, and University needs. Candidates should have: expertise in LGBTQ studies; experience teaching introductory WGSS courses; ability to teach courses that fulfill General Education US Diversity requirements; a demonstrated commitment to inclusive, interdisciplinary pedagogical practices; and a commitment to challenging structural inequalities while working for social justice. The teaching assignment for the 2021-22 academic year will be four courses per semester and may include: WGS 200 Introduction to Gender Studies; WGS 224 Introduction to LGBTQ Studies; WGS 255 Gender and Popular Culture; and WGS 491 Contemporary Theory and Practicum. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in LGBTQ studies and one or more of the following areas that support the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies: Area and Global Studies; Digital Studies; Environmental and Sustainability Studies; and Integrative Studies.
Required Qualifications and Education:
Demonstrated teaching experience in interdisciplinary LGBTQ Studies.
PhD in Queer Studies, Transgender/Trans Studies, LGBTQ Studies, Gender Studies, Sexuality Studies, Feminist Studies, Women's Studies, or some combination of these fields. Closely related fields, with a graduate certificate or at least 18 credit hours of coursework in queer, transgender/trans or LGBTQ studies will be considered. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of visiting lecturer.

Demonstrated research experience and/or academic training in an interdisciplinary field of study.
Demonstrated interdisciplinary and intersectional approaches in research, teaching, and activism.
Demonstrated commitment to experiential and high impact teaching practices.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting diversity among students, faculty, and communities.
Demonstrated commitment to service learning, activism, and social justice
Demonstrated ability to teach the following courses: WGS 200 Introduction to Gender Studies WGS 224 Introduction to LGBTQ Studies WGS 255 Gender and Popular Culture WGS 491 Contemporary Theory and Practicum.
Ability to teach in face-to-face, online synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid modalities.
Ability to contribute to an additional interdisciplinary program within the college, particularly: Area and Global Studies; Digital Studies; Environmental and Sustainability Studies; and Integrative Studies.
Salary: $45,000
