The Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) seeks full-time and part-time Phlebotomists/Lab Assistants to join their team in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
The ideal person for this role is someone with exceptional customer service skills who is able to obtain and process a variety of patient samples for lab analysis and perform routine venous and capillary punctures.
RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Obtain from patient blood specimens and non-blood specimens (urine, sputum, throat and nasopharyngeal swabs, etc.) for lab testing.
- Verify/clarify physician orders, assure accuracy of demographics against registration; perform computer accessioning of samples; label samples accurately.
- Prepare specimens for reference lab dispatch and testing.
- Provide proper patient instruction and collection containers (urine, stool, etc.).
- Assist in the lab, perform rapid tests, culture setups, load barcoded specimens, and perform quality control on automated instruments under the direction of the MT or MLT.
- Document and record information concisely, accurately, and completely.
WAGE/BENEFITS. Starting pay of $13.04 – $19.88 per hour based on experience plus a sign-on bonus ($1,000 for full-time; $500 for part-time). Position offers medical, dental, vision, retirement plan, paid time off (sick, vacation) and life insurance.
SCHEDULE. Positions participate in the weekend rotation schedule with hours as follows:
- Full-time: generally works 10am-6pm, 11am-7pm, 1pm-9pm, or as assigned.
- Part-Time: generally works 5am-1pm, 6am-2pm, 9am-5pm, 10am-6pm, 11am-7pm, or as assigned.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion/certification in a relevant technical program such as Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP or ASPT), CNA, LPN, EMT, Paramedic or other directly related medical position or equivalent on-the-job training.
- 1-year clinical experience including 6 months as a lab assistant preferred.
- Ability to physically and mentally carry out the functions of this position which includes exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Exceptional customer service skills with a professional demeanor that ensures trust, competence, and confidentiality amongst patients, hospital staff, and clinical laboratories.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-hire drug screening and background check.
