LIBRARY ASSISTANT II Community Engagement

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Support the Community Engagement Department in the development and execution of specialized or complex departmental projects and promotion of library services to the community. Employ skills and knowledge to proactively engage with organizations and individuals providing services with the goal being to reach current and new audiences and meet strategic community needs. This engagement may include, but is not limited to, participating in community organization events and initiatives, creating and sustaining partnerships, involvement in local market research efforts and planning initiatives, and communicating through traditional and new media.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with strengthening community connections and linking new users through outreach and programming efforts.
- Must have an outgoing personality, enjoy public speaking and public interaction.
- Assists in scheduling, organizing, and promoting community engagement opportunities, coordinating community partner contact lists, meetings, calendars and schedules.
- Assist patrons at outreach events in the use of computers, mobile devices, tablets, e-readers, and JDL’s digital collection.
- Provide on-site support at community engagement activities to ensure a positive experience for community members in the delivery of our programs and services.
- Maintains effective communication and positive working relations with individuals at every level in our organization from Administration to peers, and community organizations to patrons.
- May serve as an alternate Bookmobile driver
Using analytical skills, understand how the collection and analysis of data is used to support our work.
- Compiles and reports department statistics and system-wide program and outreach statistics.
- Ability to use computers, databases, and software to track community engagement efforts and initiatives; familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Outlook and Excel.
- Assist in gathering and analyzing data about target audiences, library usage and emerging trends.
- Takes initiative and manages time efficiently and able to work independently.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong note-taking skills, with precise attention to detail
Resource and support for Community Engagement Coordinator
- Assist with programming, displays, presentations and other public relations efforts especially in regard to library services.
- Serve the public by providing tailored materials, information and other services at outreach events to JDL’s target audiences.
Provides leadership for other staff in customer service and community engagement.
- Over time develops deeper awareness of JDL’s communities and their interests and needs.
- Models positive customer service attitude.
- Packages programs and services to meet patron needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree in related field with continued progress toward Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years’ demonstrated experience working collaboratively across multiple groups, departments, or organizations
- 1 year experience with event scheduling, tracking, and organization
