Position Summary:
The Nursing Administrative Supervisor ensures that quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, the hospital and nursing departmental standards. The Nursing Administrative Supervisor assumes responsibility and accountability for the total nursing units and activities during the assigned shift. The Nursing Administrative Supervisor assists the Nurse Managers' with the overall management of the operational, personnel and financial goals of the nursing units. Provides overall coordination, supervision and problem solving for nursing staff and ancillary departments as necessary. Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment. Maintains patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality and respects patient rights.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Supervises and directs nursing staff including enforcement of hospital policies, providing educational Support, corrective action, completing performance appraisals, tracking variances and staff adjusting pursuant to budget
Demonstrates professional practice skills in the delivery of patient care
Demonstrates a leadership role reflective of the hospital nursing organizational goals through written and oral communications with patients, visitors, co-workers, physician and other health care members
Collaborates with Nurse Managers, makes rounds to each nursing unit and provides guidance and direction in the absence of the Nurse Manager
Applies knowledge and participates in the development/revision of policies and procedures for the provision of patient care, and utilizes resources appropriately
Provides educational awareness/support to staff regarding policies, equipment and nursing procedures
Performs nursing care duties of a Registered Nurse as needed
Participates as a member of the emergency response teams and provides follow-up documentation
Maintains awareness of the rules and regulations governing the physical facility, environment, ensuring safety and privacy in the delivery of care for patients
Demonstrates the knowledge of the operation/maintenance of equipment utilized for the delivery of patient care, striving to prevent potential hazards to patients, visitors and personnel
Assists in the appropriate use of the electronic documentation tool
Demonstrates judgment to react and treat appropriately changes in the patient's condition or respond to treatment
Interacts with ancillary departments regarding operational needs for the care of the patient
Communicates with Physicians, Nursing Managers, co-workers as appropriate about changes in the patient's clinical condition or response to treatment
Demonstrates organizational ability through the effective use of time, equipment and personnel in the delivery of patient care
Continues professional growth, using opportunities both internal and external to the organization
Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities
Completes objective performance appraisals for staff and facilitates staff development
Provides guidance and direction to staff on assigned shift
Assists with the interviewing, selection, orientation and evaluation of the new staff members
Assists with the DOA's and in-House deaths as needed, and provides grief support to families
Performs other department related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Required:
Graduate of approved school of nursing
Licensed by State of Michigan
BCLS certified
Minimum 1 year previous experience as Charge Nurse
Minimum 3 years previous experience as Staff Registered Nurse
ACLS within 1 year of hire
TNCC or ATCN within 18 months of hire
Possesses excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate and present self to patient, visitors, other staff and physicians verbally and in writing in courteous, confident and professional manner
