The Medical Transcriptionist interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, work-up, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc. in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services.
Responsibilities:
Transcribes and edits recorded or written material assisting in providing a permanent record of patient care.
Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.
Verifies accuracy of transcription for correct punctuation, grammar and spelling.
Verifies accuracy of patient information such as name, medical record number, and patient account number.
Demonstrates an understanding of the medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to patient records to protect the patient and the hospital, adhering to privacy and confidentiality mandates.
Takes initiative in expanding job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change.
Performs other related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of high school graduate with secretarial training including word processing, personal computers (with different applications), general office equipment use and procedures.
Preferred:
Course work in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and medical transcription training preferred.
CMT - Certified Medical Transcriptionist) through the American Association for Medical Transcription.
Previous medical transcription experience.
