Description
Under the direction of the Supervisor,
is responsible for scheduling and coordinating diagnostic and therapeutic
outpatient procedures for multiple departments of McLaren Greater Lansing,
obtaining required authorizations and written orders for scheduled exams,
pre-registration, insurance verification and notification and collection of
co-pays and/or deductibles.
Essential Functionsand Responsibilities:
Obtains and adapts appropriate information fromordering physician, physician office personnel, patient or hospital departmentsregarding demographics, study/treatment required and pertinent clinicalinformation and /or diagnosis, and authorizations.
Obtains signed orders from physician offices andreconciles schedules to insure compliance with physician order requirements.
Assists with coordination of matching diagnosis withinsurance coverage and correlation with ordered exam and processes follow upwith physician office staff to verify medically necessary diagnoses or instructionstaff regarding patient obligation per established guidelines.
Gathers all insurance information with appropriatereferral number, pre-certification number and physician information. Performspatient pre-Registration via phone, performs insurance verification andnotifies patient of any out of pocket expense, i.e. co-pays and/ordeductibles.May collect balance priorto service.Note accounts of any amountpatient has agreed to pay prior to or at time of service.May delay elective services if self paybalance cannot be satisfied prior or at time of service.
Prioritizes and schedules procedures with appropriatelocations and departments, assuring timeliness, correct sequencing and properpreparations.
Notifies patient and/or appropriate family membereither verbally or in writing of scheduled test time, required preparations andwhen/how to report for testing. Re-schedules appointments as needed uponnotification of departments.
Notifies physician office of patient appointment times,if scheduled directly with patient.
Generates outpatient schedules for all participatingdepartments, to include all pertinent information and unique patientrequirements.
Acts as a resource to physicians, departments,patients, families and other authorized personnel regarding studies and patientpreparation.
Creates,modifies and maintains exam templates for all departments.
Maintainsinventory of office supplies for the central scheduling.
Assistsin the instruction and orientation of new staff members.
Preparesand maintains statistical reports as directed by the Supervisor.
Performsother related responsibilities as necessary.
Maintainsa 95% scheduling accuracy rate as well as a 98 % productivity rate.
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year clerical experience in an acute caresetting or physician office.
Experience or course work in medical terminologyand computer/data entry.
Experience with Windows applications.
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
Excellent verbal skills/phone etiquette.
Professional attitude and attention to detail. Preferred:
Associate degree or equivalent.
Radiology clerical support and patientscheduling experience.
