SUMMARY
Assists the Director of Radiology in the development of the vision, goals and objectives for the department and assumes accountability for the achievement of same. Provides direction and oversight for the care provided during Radiology procedures and all required documentation of care. Directs and supervises the work and activities of assigned Radiology staff.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN required. MSN or MBA in a health-related field preferred. A MSN or MBA or Master's in a health-related field is required within four years of entering the position.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in an acute care setting. Holds current CPR and ACLS certifications. Must have PALS certification or obtain within one year.
Demonstrated ability to lead/direct others and to work effectively with persons of varied background and educational experience. Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice including the nursing process with clinical relevancy needed for the specialty areas. Knowledgeable and experienced with meeting the certification requirements for CMS/TJC, State and other regulatory agencies.
ORGANIZATION
Position resides in the Department of Radiology with primary reporting to the Director of Radiology. Has working contact with Medical Staff and Department Leadership throughout Munson Healthcare. Shared responsibility for Support Services, General Diagnostics, Special Procedures, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonances Imaging, and Mammography.
SPECIFIC DUTIES

Provides leadership and direction to nursing and technical staff in developing and implementing appropriate standards of nursing practice throughout the department of Radiology. Develops and implements goals and objectives annually in concert with the Department of Radiology, Nursing and Munson Strategic Plans. Directs and evaluates the nursing care of patients according to hospital policies and procedures and accepted principles of practice including nursing assessment and nursing diagnosis and appropriate documentation. Provides clinical support as needed. Ensures staff compliance with hospital policies, regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. Assists and facilitates the implementation of systems that integrate policies and procedures with regulations, practice standards, and clinical guidelines. Develops and implements plan for Quality Review of department programs and services in conjunction with the department management team. Facilitates and empowers registered nurses to assume accountability for patient outcomes in their area of responsibility. Implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of care delivered to patients in area of responsibility. Provides leadership in establishing a culture of safety throughout the department. Maintains own professional growth, demonstrates awareness of new trends in nursing practice, analyzes those trends for applicability to the unit, shares new information with appropriate others, participates in appropriate educational offerings. Assesses staff continuing education needs and develops plans to assist staff in meeting those needs. Identifies areas of strength as well as areas for professional/practice development. Is knowledgeable about and ensures fair and consistent application of personnel policies. Develops and administers staff competencies and ensures documentation of the same. Provides oversight, review, approval and submission of payroll information. Provides corrective action according to hospital policy, regulations, and applicable practice standards. Interviews and selects new staff, assures the provision and documentation of department orientation. Assumes responsibility for administration of operational budgets in the defined areas of responsibility, utilizing resources appropriately. Completes analysis of designated Radiology modalities' financial reports on a monthly basis. Compares actual to budget, explains variances from budget, and makes operational recommendations to the System Director of Radiology. Serves on committees as requested. Participates with other clinical leaders in the organization's decision-making structures and processes. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
