SUMMARY
Program, operate and maintain mechanical and hydraulic presses in production setting. Set up and execute specific jobs as prioritized by the Department Head -- maintaining quality, delivery dates and safety requirements at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Review line up and address any concerns with Supervisor
- Set up and tear down tools within target completion times
- Barber dies including Class A surfaces and always log time spent on Barber log
- Try out dies within target completion times
- Cut blanks for other dies
- Run quality parts with a goal to meet or exceed production targets
- Perform spotting of tools
- Develop tooling concepts / blanks
- Identity problems and recommend solutions
- Safely and independently operate all presses including hydraulic and mechanical
- Drive hi-lo carefully following all safety rules
- Operate crane carefully following all safety rules
- Change dies within target completion times.
- Fill out all required paperwork completely and accurately and turn in on time: routing tags process die set-up sheets, barber logs, etc.
- Perform welding
- Clean up at end of shift – be sure that all flammables are put away in proper cabinet
- Maintain acceptable oil & coolant levels in all machinery and equipment
- Communicate with next shift to report any problems encountered. Update supervisor. Update target time utilized.
- Maintain continuous improvement in quality & productivity
- Focus on job and be self motivated
- Keep safe by wearing all required protective equipment including safety glasses.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems independently
- Help and mentor newly hired Trainees and Upgraders

Most of the Press Operator’s time is spent on the production floor. This employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or equipment, loud noises, warm temperatures, airborne particles, possible electrical shock, chemicals, fumes and lubricants.

REQUIREMENTS
- Education required: High school diploma or equivalency or 10 years on-the-job experience
- Experience required: Minimum 5 years experience.
- Skills, knowledge or abilities: Read, write & speak the English language fluently.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts and conversions.
- Ability to work with statistical data and apply concepts such as whole numbers and fractions, ratios and proportions and work with measurement devices.
- Ability to work with and convert units of production and convert those units to dollars.
- Ability to accurately identify and analyze trends.
- Ability to understand requests and convert those requests into the terms, standards and units of production and measurement utilized within the EMI organization in a timely manner.

The PRESS OPERATOR has the authority to fulfill the duties and responsibilities outlined above and any other authority that may be granted by the DEPARTMENT HEAD or GENERAL MANAGER.

- 100% adherence to proper buy-off approval before running parts.
- 100% adherence to proper logging of barber time against barber target by shift.
- Timely and accurate response to requests made by Department Head and General Manager.
- Complete assignments at or before deadlines with quality that meets or exceeds job expectations.
- Zero defects in products generated.
- Zero damage to machinery or tools caused by lack of attention to job.
- Accurate, timely and legible reporting.
- Zero accidents or safety violations.
