Ascension St. John Hospital is hiring a Licensed Behavioral Intake Specialist for our Detroit Campus. You will partner with Providers and Clinicians to see patients in the Emergency Department and on the medical floors to determine behavioral health needs. You must be familiar with insurance authorization processes and be comfortable contacting the insurance companies directly. This position requires that you work well both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

What You Will Do
Responsibilities:
Complete Behavioral Health Assessments for potential psychiatric hospital admissions and manage any mental health petitions and clinical certs.
Document the Behavioral Health Assessment and daily disposition progress/updates in the patient's electronic medical record.
Collaborate effectively with community psychiatric facilities (admissions department) for potential patient transfers.
Complete level of care requests with county community mental health organizations and/or obtain necessary commercial insurance authorization for psychiatric hospitalizations.
Organize and review all paperwork accompanying transfer patients to ensure adherence with hospital and regulatory policies.
Communicate and effectively work with physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, technicians, patient representative, social workers, security, and/or CARE Team members regarding patient's disposition.
Provide the patient with appropriate outpatient mental health and/or substance abuse resources, when applicable.
What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
One or more of the following required:
Master Social Worker specializing in Clinical Practice credentialed from the Michigan Board of Social Work obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Master Social Worker credentialed from the Michigan Board of Social Work obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Counselor credentialed from the Michigan Board of Counseling obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
Education:
- High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
Additional Preferences
At least one year in an acute social work setting is preferred.
Good understanding of level of care criteria and knowledge of community resources and insurance companies.
Ability to utilize professional judgment and critical thinking.
