Network Administrators
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Duration: 6 - 12 months Job Summary
Network Administrators ?maintain the Network Infrastructure by installing and tracking?Networking?components, performing upgrades of software, maintaining Network hardware, addressing questions about technical problems, and improving efficiency by evaluating infrastructure functions. Skills will include the ability to be a recognized consultant on relevant subject matter knowledge including technologies. Helps contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas. Successfully operates in complex disciplines, in which the company must operate to be successful. Implements network solutions. Participates in functional teams or projects that affect the organizations long-term goals and objectives. May participate in cross-division, multi-function teams. Provides guidance to other employees. Demonstrates independent judgment while collaborating with other entities.
Key Job Responsibilities
Addresses network incident and outage issues
Communicates effectively with clients
Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change
Has input on plans and designs of a network technology solution
Assists with solving network related technical problems
Assists with network related projects
Monitors systems to ensure they meet both user needs and business goals
Install, configure, test and maintain network system management tools
Maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
Monitor and test network performance for potential improvement opportunities
Offers input of information and operational support systems with emphasis on network architecture
Engages vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
Log calls with external providers where and when necessary and effectively escalate issues needing their support
Assist with deployment of improvement opportunities to the environment
Responsible for implementing technical solution to the client, in accordance with an agreed technical design
Occasionally be responsible for offering input on technical designs for enterprise solutions across multiple platforms and technologies
Understands network technologies in order to offer input of a technical design which meets customer requirements
Ability to lead technical projects
Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively work with both peers and clients.
Liaises with Solutions Architect as appropriate
Provides input on solution and integration opportunities to defined network segments
Reviews architectural solutions and deploys recommendations
Provides technical input on specific integration activities that are part of an engagement
Provides planning and design input for the development of solution architectures
Effectively communicates across client community
References knowledge tools and communities
Participates in memberships in the networking professional community
Provides input on internally published material such as knowledge briefs, service delivery kit components or technical modules, etc.
Required
2 - 3+ years of Intermediate level network administration experience in Cisco or equivalent platform; preferably in a remote management center/data center enterprise environment
Experience with enterprise monitoring systems
Network scripting skills experience (e.g., shell scripts)
Networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, routing protocols)
Understanding of network hardware components and troubleshooting procedures
Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail, works independently
Skills in seeking solutions to network problems using one's own resources with proven track record in critical issue resolution
Proven ability to effectively work with other technical resources
Certifications: CCNA (i.e. Routing/Switching, Security, Wireless), NSE 2/3 and/or equivalent work experience
Preferred
Knowledge with supporting environments that include infrastructure elements such as hosting, enterprise storage, BUR
Understanding of ITIL concepts
Skills in monitoring and testing system performance; prepare analyze, deliver system performance statistics with recommendations
Experience with Microsoft Active Directory including creating, deleting and modifying user accounts, setting up e-mail, home and directories
Experience with managing and monitoring enterprise infrastructure
Ability to oversee the design, development, and implementation of systems, software, applications, and related products
Advanced degree or higher in computer science. A combination of education, experience and training may be considered in lieu of a formal degree
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team
Experience with Microsoft Server Systems
Demonstrated ability to add input on solutions
Proven ability to develop reusable solutions and workarounds
Proven ability to troubleshoot
Ability to operate and present at all levels, and in public forums, to facilitate business discussions, and controls and leads those discussions
Ability to lead production of proposals, working across departments, for complex customer solutions. Able to lead, coach and mentor others in consulting skills
Demonstrated ability to develop and win new opportunities through application of consulting skills
Proven ability to relate risks and challenges with other client efforts
Proven ability to develop detailed project plans and work breakdown structures
Is recognized by peers as an expert in an area of technology
Experience in large project/programs involving multiple disciplines, technologies, multi-geographies, and business units
