LATHE OPERATOR
The Jetool division of Chesaning Manufacturing Company, Inc. specializes in aircraft turbine engine tooling and manufactures tools for major aircraft engine manufacturers.
We provide aircraft service center customers worldwide with quality maintenance tooling for the repair and overhaul of aircraft turbine engines. Our machine and fabrication shops can manufacture all types of engine stands, transporters, balancing kits, gage sets, bearing pullers, installation and removal fixtures and stretch shaft fixtures.
Summary: Responsible for setting up and operating conventional and numerical control lathes to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts as well as fitting and assembling machine parts in the completed unit while applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
- Programs and operates machine tools to the blueprint specification and tolerance checks the parts for conformance to specification.
- Seeks and maintains the ability to run more than one machine at a time.
- Works with other team members on programming of machines and maintenance.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, or drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machine(s).
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachment accessories, and material on machines
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, and coolant flow as well as the depth and angle of the cut.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance turning.
- Verifies conformance of finished work piece to the specifications by using precision measuring instruments.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings.
- Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts if trained.
- Complies with company policies and procedures with special attention to safety regulations.
- Maintains the appearance of the building, machines, and work area, and assists in keeping it clean or notifies the appropriate person of issues as needed.
- Maintains knowledge of emergency procedures and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.
- Follows all OSHA and MIOSHA safety standards and guidelines.

Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. A degree in machine tooling preferred; experience with Mastercam CAD software is preferred; experience in programming, aerospace, and or prior military experience preferred.
