In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution.
The representative rate for this position is $51,591 per annum ($24.72 per hour).

Handles routine inquiries from both staff and inmates, providing technical assistance and answering questions regarding the general nature of correctional programs. Screens telephone calls or personal contact with staff/inmates, utilizing own judgment in directing the caller to the most qualified staff member. Maintains subject matter files and records. Sets up and maintains logs showing the status of actions and correspondence. Ensures that files include all required documents and that all documents are properly signed. Using either a word processor or a conventional typewriter, types narrative and tabular material as described herein. Maintains Bureau of Prisons Program Statements, Operations Memoranda, administrative and regulatory requirements, correspondence files and records in the operation of the office. Responsible for the preparation of draft and/or final form of material such as, memoranda, letters, reports, requests, etc., as assigned. Performs a variety of administrative support duties, such as taking and transcribing meeting minutes, copying and filing and appropriate disposal of sensitive documents.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.
Occasional travel - Travel may be required for training and/or work related issues.

You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
- Experience receiving telephone calls and visitors, handling requests for information, processing incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports and memoranda.
- Experience editing and composing letters and reports, transcribing notes, and reviewing correspondence.
- Experience performing office automation duties using a personal computer, preparing a calendar, worksheets, typing a variety of documents such as letters, forms, schedules, meeting minutes, and maintaining computer files.
- Experience scheduling and maintaining appointments, coordinating meetings and conferences, making travel arrangements, and performing time and attendance functions.
Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.
