The laboratories of Dr. Roger Cone and Dr. Isin Cakir, at the Life Sciences Institute at the University of Michigan, are looking for a research laboratory technician. Our laboratories are focused on understanding how leptin acts in the central nervous system to regulate energy stores. You will help assist with defined research projects under the supervision of a team of researchers, led by Dr. Isin Cakir. You will heavily focus on mouse husbandry and molecular genetic techniques.

- Handle small mammals (breeding and genotyping mouse colonies and transgenic lines)
- Perform animal experiments including mouse behavioral analyses, metabolic analyses, and harvesting of tissues
- Comply with University of Michigan safety and animal care regulations
- Perform standard molecular biology experiments including DNA and RNA isolations, restriction digests, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, protein isolation, PCR, and qPCR
- Collect, analyze, and process laboratory samples
- Demonstrate an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques
- Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, toxic material, and/or carcinogens)
- Maintain written records of experimental results
- Prepare reagents
- Order supplies and reagents
- High School Diploma or Associate's degree
- Minimum of 1 year of laboratory research experience
- Minimum of 1 year experience analyzing and presenting data
- Minimum of 1 year experience designing experiments
- Willingness to work with mice as a model system
- BS in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related discipline
- Minimum of 1 year experience with mouse breeding and colony management
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with DNA preparation and PCR
- Minimum of 1 year experience of mouse behavioral and/or metabolic research experience
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The minimum salary at the Associate level is $31,200.
