Production Engineer (2101836) - Wyandotte, MI
Where the Chemistry Happens
The Wyandotte Polyol Plant is a combination of a batch alkoxylation polyether polyalcohol plant and a mixed batch/continuous graft polyol production plant. The Production Engineer is responsible for supporting the daily operations of their assigned production area as well as additional general plant support activities.
In this role, you will support the day to day operation of your assigned production area, providing technical assistance in executing the required production plan. You will lead troubleshooting efforts and continuous improvement efforts in collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain and Analytical Services. You will role-model the Safe and Reliable Operations philosophy through your coordination of MOCs and participation in Process Hazard Analysis. You will collaborate with the Geismar Polyol plant, product management, logistics, and other key stakeholders to maintain transparency and enable integrated decision making.
Additionally, you may support Capital Planning and Project Execution as a Manufacturing Representative on small capital projects. Using Lean / Six Sigma tools, you will deliver process improvements in quality, productivity, cost, and environmental sustainability. You will be instrumental in leading troubleshooting efforts when problems arise and providing solutions. You will support continuous improvement and troubleshooting for minor Automation issues (i.e. DCS/SIS) as well as support Digitalization efforts and other technology initiatives. This position requires commitment to Behavioral Based Safety processes, such as CHAMPS, which support the BASF Journey to EHS Excellence. Shared on-call responsibility is required for response to any after hour event that impacts production or EHS.
Formula for Success
Utilizing your education in Engineering, you will provide guidance and input to the achievement and development of plant goals, objectives, and operational budgets. You will additionally contribute to the achievement of production goals while meeting established standards of Safety, Efficiency Quality, Cost and Environmental Protection.
Leveraging your previous experience in a chemical/refining or a similar manufacturing environment, you will provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the Daily Operational Team for plant problems that occur and will closely monitor the process conditions and provide technical support and feedback to the Operations team.
Your understanding of engineering principles and their practical application in a plant environment will aid your role in driving standardization across shifts and optimization of operating costs; You will partner with other site/area functions for standardization and best practice sharing across the site.
Your demonstrated experience with continuous improvement and change management initiatives will drive your leadership in root cause failure analysis for production, EHS, and quality Incidents.
Your understanding of manufacturing operations and equipment will drive the optimization of scheduled and unscheduled downtime and overall cycle time improvements (Asset Effectiveness and AE tools) and will allow you to assist the department in the coordination, planning, and execution of shutdown or turnaround work including maintenance and capital activities.
Your discipline in documentation of operating files, records, procedures, P&IDs and other technical files will be critical to compliance and quality success.
