The purpose of this position is to help oversee and participate in the daily operations of Fort Wilkins Historic State Park; including a 158-site modern campground, youth organization campground, Historic Fort Wilkins Complex, Copper Harbor Lighthouse, 3 Marinas, and 5 boating access sites. The employee in this position will assist the Park Supervisor in a variety of day to day operational duties. These duties will include but are not limited to assisting in the development of work schedules, work assignments, directing and coordinating construction and maintenance projects, requisitioning and purchasing of supplies and materials, training employees and overseeing the work of seasonal rangers, a laborer, and state work 4's. This position will also keep the unit up to date on required safety plans. The employee in this position will assist the Park Supervisor in a wide array of office duties. The duties will include but are not limited to; compile and submit various reports in a timely manner, maintain inventory and training records. This position requires that the employee be able to obtain and hold a DNR Law Enforcement Commission. Commissioned Park and Recreation Rangers are required to obtain a passing score on the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standard (MCOLES) Physical Fitness Test _prior_ to starting employment. This position requires that the employee be able to obtain and hold a class A CDL driver's license.
Required Education and Experience
Education Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Park and Recreation Ranger 6
No specific type or amount is required.
Park and Recreation Ranger 7
One year of experience in a park or recreation setting, or in the construction trades.
Park and Recreation Ranger E8
Two years of park and recreation experience, including one year equivalent to a Park and Recreation Ranger 7.
Alternate Education and Experience
Completion of at least 8 semester (12 term) college credits in natural resources, park management or outdoor recreation may be substituted for one year of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E.
Completion of at least 15 semester (22 term) college credits in natural resources, park management or outdoor recreation may be substituted for two years of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E.

To be considered for this position you must first schedule and pass an MCOLES physical fitness test or have passed the MCOLES physical fitness test within the last 6 months.
