Job Description The sergeant is the first line supervisor who directly supervises Corrections Officers. S/he has a high percentage of direct prisoner contact. S/he may be assigned to work the yard, arsenal, administrative segregation/detention, all housing units and the control center. A sergeant needs to be knowledgeable in and able to implement all policies and operating procedures related to the assigned position. Give direct instructions to and instruct all officers in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, prisoners and visitors at the facility. Required Education and Experience Education Completion of 15 semester (23 term) credits in one or a combination of the following areas: correctional administration, criminal justice, criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, educational psychology, family relations, pastoral counseling, or law enforcement. Experience Two years of experience equivalent to a Corrections Officer, Corrections Transportation Officer, Corrections Medical Aide, or Special Alternative Incarceration Officer.
