Position: Public Health Nurse I Rotating (221039/221058)
Department: Saginaw County Health Department – Family Planning & Sexually Transmitted Disease
Classification/Salary: (P-16) $53,102.96 – 69,926.46
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs difficult technical work providing a wide range of nursing services, and related work as apparent or assigned.
-Assesses client needs by reviewing lab results, evaluating client health, and implementing a plan of care. Performs pelvic exams, takes specimen collection, administers injections, dispenses medications, and checks patient vital signs.
-Performs research on communicable diseases, patient lab results and provides education and other information as needed to patients.
-Performs HIV, STD, and pregnancy testing and provides results, counseling, education, referral services, and follow up care to patients and families as needed.
-Documents services provided and updates patient charts with necessary labs, results, documentation, etc. Prepares and files reports, answers phones, and maintains files.
-Provides customer services in person and over the phone by answering questions and directing clients. Assisting clients in completing forms and documents.
-Orders and monitors use of clinical supplies.
-Assists in orienting new staff and nursing students. Tracks and enters program data.
-Promotes health department programs by providing information and education to the community in meetings, at local health fairs, to area colleges and universities, and in person.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in nursing, Current/Valid State of Michigan Registered Nurse License required and 1 to 3 years’ experience in community or public health nursing. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
INDIVIDUAL MUST SUCCESSFULLY PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TEST.
