Requires;
Bachelors degree in a human services program like Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or similar
2 years of work experience with children or families with multi-problem challenges

Job Summary
Provides intensive, short term or long-term in-home crisis intervention and family education, based on program specification, to families at risk of out-of-home placement to children due to abuse, neglect, delinquency or homelessness related to domestic violence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide in-home crisis oriented treatment, education and support to family units where one or more family members may be placed outside the home in foster, group, or institutional care or, be at-risk of being removed from the home.
Provide a range of interventions to children, adults, and families, using acceptable treatment methodologies consistent with the Family Preservation best practice model.
Actively participate as a member of team meetings; keep all members informed of case status and progress; provide oral and written reports as needed and make recommendations about case goals, alternative service plans, action steps and activities for treatment plans.
Assist clients to clearly define presenting problems, devise methods and goals for resolution, assess their progress toward treatment goals and plan termination.
Present cases to supervisor for review of treatment plans and progress on a regularly scheduled basis.
Provide appropriate referrals for clients requiring additional or alternative services.
Assume therapeutic responsibility for all cases on assigned caseload; conduct intake, assessment and scheduling of all assigned clients.
Collaborate with referral sources, agencies, institutions and individuals who have important roles in the family's life situation. Provide advocacy and professional consultation work with the referring organization, schools, court, and other social service agencies as needed.
Complete client follow up at intervals as outlined.
Complete and maintain all reports, statistics and assignments as required. Enter all required data in required systems in a timely manner.
Participate in all required training and effectively implement learned skills.
Job Qualifications
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in social work or comparable human service field.
Experience
Minimum two years field experience working with multi-problem children and families with ability to relate to and engage with these families.
Experience in strength-based, family-centered, solution focused approaches beneficial.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to apply the Family Preservation models in intervention strategies with clients and families.
Knowledge of educational, behavioral and in-home interventions.
Ability to understand child, adult and family functioning. Ability to model and teach effective parenting techniques with clients.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Ability to apply basic mathematical applications.
Ability to effectively read, speak and write the English language.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to prepare business letters, summaries, client notes, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar and diction.
Ability to utilize assessment, problem identification, diagnostic and treatment techniques including risk and safety assessments with individuals, families and groups.
Knowledge and skills in substance abuse and domestic violence preferred.
Skills in crisis intervention, assessment of potentially violent situations and short term goal setting. Knowledge of treatment philosophies and strategies of home-based services including strength based, solution focused approaches.
Ability to demonstrate cultural and ethnic sensitivity and a non-judgmental positive attitude toward families in crisis.
Knowledge of and ability to advocate and mobilize individuals, staff, families and groups.
Ability to operate with minimal direct supervision in carrying out assigned tasks and responsibilities.
Effectively utilizes word processing, data base and spreadsheet applications.
Additional Work Requirements
Participation in a system of 24-hour availability to families as required. Weekend and evening hours required.
Valid driver's license with good driving record; reliable ongoing personal transportation suitable for safely transporting clients; current automobile registration and proof of automobile insurance.
