Description:
Our Maintenance Technicians perform general maintenance, grounds and/or custodial services and repair of all college facilities. General facilities services include maintenance of equipment and machinery including plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, ventilation, heating, air conditioning, snow removal, etc.
Additional responsibilities may occasionally include providing trash pickup, shipping and receiving, and custodial tasks to maintain the premises in a clean and orderly condition during hours of operation.
Staff in this position may occasionally work under hazardous conditions and must maintain safety awareness and conform to MIOSHA standards at all times.
Knowledge of building, fire, health, and safety codes must be applied to ensure that the work done will pass inspection and meet ADA requirements.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Conducting routine inspection of college facilities, equipment, and grounds for defects and to determine service needs.

Programming, operating, and monitoring the performance of the computerized climate control system; performing maintenance and repair of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure proper operation of boilers, pumps, water heaters, air handling units, pneumatic systems, fans, and other related equipment.

Performing routine maintenance on the various building mechanical systems; repairing and/or replacing pumps and motors, changing belts and filters, and lubricating various moving parts.

Performing maintenance tasks such as minor equipment repairs, lock repair or replacement, installing shelves and cabinets, moving furniture and equipment, etc.

Installing and repairing electrical wiring, computer, and audio/visual cables.

Removing snow and ice from campus areas and walkways; spreading salt on walkways entrances

Assisting in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and the type 1 water supply system.

May perform general grounds maintenance such as cutting grass, trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, spraying for disease and insect control, and applying fertilizer.

Locking and unlocking building doors, activating and deactivating the facilities security system.

On-call responsibilities to respond to heating/cooling system breakdowns or malfunctions, and/or other facility emergencies.

Performs other related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED and one year of technical, vocational, or trade school

Three to five years of experience in electrical, heating, cooling, and ventilation; experience in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, roofing, and with direct control of HVAC system.

EPA certification in refrigerants or attainable within nine months.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings.

Working knowledge of the operation and repair of mechanical equipment.

Working knowledge of safety factors and legal codes.

Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, and ascending ladders.
