Seeking motivated candidate to work as the Offender Success Resource Specialist/Career Coach to facilitate access to resources and care for returning citizens. From day one of a subject's release from a Correctional Facility into one of the serviced counties, you will directly manage a case load and work in coordination with others to help this population have a greater chance of success. Participants include only those that qualify for the Offender Success program as determined in advance by assessments conducted by the Michigan Department of Corrections, which takes into consideration an individual's complete history, their offense, available support, and known risks; these are all felons on parole not subjects being released from local jails on probation.
As an employee of Michigan Works! Region 7B Consortium in contract with MDOC, the primary duties in this role are to assist the OS Community Coordinator and the Administrative Agency, MWR7B in obtaining goods and services for participants requested by MDOC Parole Agents and authorized by the Community Coordinator or Administrative Agency. This may include arranging placement into program housing, providing access to program transportation and other support services that will assist participants during their acclimation back into society, contributing to their greater chance of success and reducing recidivism. Candidate will also provide and assist OS participants with ongoing career preparation, coaching, and guidance to help them in preparing for and successfully securing and sustaining employment and self-sufficiency, while completing tracking and reporting requirements of same.
Candidate acts as case managers and must be accessible to clients, community partners and Parole Agents at regular and irregular times. Candidate must possess strong attention to detail and have the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; excellent communication skills and the ability and confidence to work with parolees face to face; knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Excel; must embrace importance of teamwork in collaboration with clients, criminal justice professionals, employers, community partners and Michigan Works co-workers; must be an ambassador of the program and also serve as a role model for the clients on duty and off.
Residency is not a requirement. Frequent travel between assigned counties in your personal vehicle will be required, with paid mileage away from your base office. Your base office will be negotiated and determined upon hire. A valid Driver's License and a reliable vehicle are required for this position.
Qualified candidates will go through a screening, interview and hiring process which will include complete background, criminal history, and reference check. A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or other related field from an accredited institution is preferred. Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a related field is highly preferred. In lieu of a college degree, only candidates with two or more years of verifiable experience in a Human Services position will be considered.
