We're looking for a Compensation & Benefits Manager to join #TeamBergmann!
What You'll Do: The compensation and benefits manager is responsible for implementation and administration of a comprehensive compensation and benefits program for Bergmann in all company operations. As needed, provides special guidance and assistance to all locations on various employee compensation and benefit plans.
Who We're Looking For: All candidates should have a minimum five years' experience managing employee compensation and benefits in an in-house HR department or comparable experience. Prior industry (Architecture and Engineering) compensation experience is a plus!

Our next Compensation and Benefits Manager will:
- Survey industry and/or community to determine Bergmann's competitive position in employee compensation and benefits.
- Research and recommend specific compensation and benefits comparison resources to be used as reference material in establishing the compensation and benefits program.
- Develops, recommends and installs approved, new, or modified plans and employee benefit and compensation policies, and supervises administration of existing plans.
- Develops and recommends the interval and methods for which the compensation grades are updated and so that compensation plan remains competitive.
- Stays current on compensation and benefit trends that impact Bergmann, the regions in which Bergmann operates, the AE industry and other industries that may directly impact Bergmann.
- Recommends the frequency, timing and the RFPs for Health Insurance Broker as well as other benefit plan vendors.
- Develops benefit cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and employee, while remaining competitive.
- Manages employee benefits programs such as: retirement plans; medical and dental plans; health savings accounts; Section 125 cafeteria plans. May research aspects of Key Person Insurance as indicated by Chief Human Resources and Legal Officer.
- Develops census data and solicits carriers for quotations. Evaluates proposals and makes recommendations to management concerning benefits. Develops company cost information for new plans and makes recommendations to management concerning sharing of cost between employer and employee.
- Implements approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material and other media for communicating new plans to employees. Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment of employees in optional/voluntary plans. Conducts employee benefit seminars. Revises and reissues all communications material on benefits from time to time. Advises and counsels management and employees on existing benefits.
- Initiates legal consultation, with the approval of the Chief Human Resources and Legal Officer, regarding benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements, insurance policies, and compensation plans. Instructs insurance carriers, trustees, and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefit program. Ensures prompt and accurate compliance.
- Assures company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). Coordinates preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies (including 5500s). Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits and reports necessary or suggested changes to management. Coordinates company benefits with government sponsored programs.
- Coordinates and administers 401(k) plan with the 401(k) committee, coordinates plan document changes, coordinates with auditors, makes any plan administration corrections as indicated by auditors, coordinates and prepares materials for non-discrimination testing and annual discretionary contribution.
- Conduct or assist with new hire benefit orientation.
- Assist with employee benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Maintains contact in person, and by phone or mail, with providers, insurance companies, employees and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.
- Coordinates with payroll.
- Coordinates seasonal layoffs.
- Coordinates military leaves with benefit compliance, accommodations.
- Supervises identification of ACA impacted employees, distribution of correspondence, ACA payment coupons and processing of ACA payments once received.
- Manages ACA reporting process.
- Supervises maintenance of enrollment, application, and claims records for all benefit plans.
- Coordinates benefits for due diligence for Mergers & Acquisitions. Conducts orientation and onboarding for employees joining through mergers or acquisitions.
- Approve reconciled life, disability insurance, AFLAC, 401(k) and other benefit plan invoices as needed.
- Establish & maintain positive relationships with co-workers, support and build others on the team and across disciplines/offices.
- Be responsive to others and share information to improve efficiency and help others achieve goals; listen and engage in productive and critical debate.
- Suggest new ideas and processes; stay informed of developments in practice areas; view obstacles as opportunities.
- Constantly sits or stands for prolonged periods. Constantly operates a computer. Frequently communicates with others in person, by phone, and via computer. Regularly works more than forty hours per week.
- Occasional travel (including overnights) to various office/work locations.
